Adding Value When You Sell Your Home

A home is most folks' biggest asset.  What do we expect assets to do?  Appreciate in value.  Yet a home won't do that unless you add the value to it.

Keeping a house updated, cleaned, maintained in tip-top working order... these are all vital steps to preserve your asset and grow its value.  Here's a magnificent example from stager trainer, Janine Varney, of a home staging that combined a little updating with spectacular accessorizing, thereby improving the unit's value, and ultimately, its quick and effortless sale.

Paula Dean: Your Massive Opportunity, should you choose to take it.

Paula_dean
This week, Paula Dean finally let it be known that she had Type 2 diabetes.  For years she's created the most sinfully delicious food, that we all knew had to be bad for you.  Yet, there she was, this jovial, pretty lady, with huge diamonds, massive smiling eyes, that infectious laugh - the living proof of abundance and joie de vivre!

That she claims she never told anyone to eat her food everyday simply isn't true.  I've watched her show for years, and even got her Southern Cooking Bible as a Christmas present this year, and nowhere did she say that.  Indeed, aren't most Southerners supposed to read their bible once a day, at the very least?!

So, for her to hide her diabetes - apparently she's known for 2 years - feels duplicitous and sneaky.  Understandable, perhaps, given all the crap she's had to endure: Anthony Bourdain calling her "the most dangerous woman in America", for example!  And her livelihood would falter...perhaps.

Imagine if, instead, she had announced it as soon as she found out, with distress and fear, adn then immediately found a diet that fits her way of cooking as quickly as possible.  You can have lots of butter on the Atkins program.  Or the Dukan Diet - which is low fat, low carb but tons of protein and man would I love to have a Paula Dean show me how to put her style of flavoring and zest into a high protein diet!

I'd love to follow her as she tries to redo each of her recipes in a new style.  Even if she opts for a Weight Watchers approach.  Their food's awful, too.  Wouldn't you pay money to watch her try to adapt?  Sometimes she'd hit it and sometimes not, but it would be authentic, honest and extremely entertaining.

What I wouldn't give to have a Paula Deen beside me on my own quest to drop 61 pounds!  Laughing and joking together about all the hits, and misses.  As it is, I'm doing it alone, with a very patient husband who frequently tells me

nah, I can't eat any more of this, honey; it's spectacularly bad."

I'm trying to adapt; I just wish I knew about how foods and flavors combine.  Where are you, Paula?  America needs you... and not just because we all just bought your "bible"!
